July favourites

A glimpse into my world down here...

I really don't know where to start, I have never done a favourites post before, but can you really call yourself a blogger of you don't? I'm sure you can but I still want to write this post, so here we go.

My favourites this month are a bit of a mixture, I have; a bag, a dress, a pair of shoes, a book, a mascara and a fragrance. Six items is pretty good for a first favourites, so we'll make a start.

Rubicon saddle bag

Saddle bag

Alex and I have an agreement, whenever I am on holiday I blitz the house with a bloody good clean and in return he buys me a pressie. The latest has been the Rubicon saddle bag by Matt & Nat in the colour Quartz, which is the cutest baby pink.

For those of you who haven't heard of the brand Matt & Nat I highly recommend that you have a look, they are a vegan brand from Canada who make the most beautiful bags and recently shoes (see below). With the exception of one, all of my bags are now from Matt & Nat and I am already eyeing up more.

So the bag itself is the perfect size for a quick trip out to the shops where you don't really want to be carrying too much. It has three compartments, the middle on having a zip so it is perfect for keeping something like your passport or documents safe. I have been able to fit in so much, including my camera into these compartments, but I plan to do a what's in my bag post to show you better.

The bag also features a magnetic snap closure so you don't have to mess around too much trying to close it, and the handle is detachable so if you want to wear it as a clutch as you can. The handle is the only part of the bag that I don't 100% love as for me I could do with it being a little wider.

I love this bag so much that I am thinking about getting the same bag in black so I can continue to wear it through Autumn and Winter.

Start Print Dress

Whistles star print dress

First of all I never thought I would be the sort of person who would buy a full price Whistles dress, yes I always wanted to be but I didn't think I would actually do it. Well I did!

Recently I haven't been loving my wardrobe; I realised that the large majority of my clothes were going unused and so I decided that I would try a capsule wardrobe (I never got around to writing a Summer capsule wardrobe post, but I am more optimistic about an Autumn one). What it was missing was a nice, grown up looking day dress. I love wearing dresses but I found that the ones I was picking up in the shops either were too formal, more suitable for work or they made me look like a teenager.

This dress however! It really was love at first sight. My sister and I had gone into Whistles to have a browse through the sale section and it was in the middle of the store, just calling to me. I did that thing where you walk around, pretending to look at other things but secretly you know that you are going to try it on anyway. Which I did, and I just fell deeper in love when I found just how well it fitted. Being as small as I am I never find clothes that fit "just right" but this dress was the closest I have found in a long time.

As you can see the dress is this impressive start print (hence the name), but the skirt along the bottom is a slightly different. Across the bust is a beautiful pleat, which helps to give it a beautiful fit. Finally it tucks in at the waist to give an hourglass figure.

Sauve Mules

Mules

If you haven't already spotted I have mentioned shoes and the pair that I mean are these. This is another Matt & Nat item, as they recently branched out into footwear as well as handbags.

I was very good, I had been looking at these shoes for months ever since I had seen one of the TAs at school wearing a similar pair. At the time I couldn't justify spending that much money, but then to my delight they were reduced in the sale. This is why I am recommending them to you because I am not sure how much longer they are going to be available.

When I wore these for the first time I decided to really give them a test by an afternoon of shopping followed by a bloggers event (that post should be up in a few days) and I have to say that they are one of the most comfortable shoes I have worn in a long time. The soles of the shoes are slightly padded so you don't get that burning feeling in the ball of your foot.

I will say that they have rubbed my big toes a little, but this is to be expected when your foot is being forced down into the shoe from the height of the heel.

Wilde Like Me

Wilde Like Me

If you haven't heard Louise Pentland wrote a book! I wasn't sure what it wasn't going to be like, you never know what to expect when someone branches out from their area of expertise but I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised.

I'm not going to say much more as I have included it as one of my Summer reading list 2017 so I will be writing a whole post on it in the near future.

Very Vegan Mascara

Mascara

I am just over 7 months into my vegan journey and I in the process of making sure that all my make up is suitable. This is where I plug another one of my posts as Saturday was National Lipstick Day and I wrote a spur of the moment post on my lipstick collection which can be found right here.

Unfortunately most mascaras contain beeswax making them not suitable for vegans, which is why when I discovered that this one was made with a synthetic beeswax I was very eager to try it.

Now this is not the most exciting mascara that you will find, and at £8 what do you expect? It is a basic one, it is black and it covers your lashes so you can see them. At the moment I have kinda fallen out of love with make up so for now it is fulfilling all my needs.

Superdrug Layering Lab Body Mist Fresh

Superdrug mist

As a teacher I obviously spend all day with teenagers, and no offence to them but I don't really want to be using my fancy perfume for everyday. So when I found this body mist I was overjoyed, here we have a beautiful smelling fragrance that is less than £3!

It is part of a series of fragrances, I think there might be 6 in total which can either be worn on their own or they can by layered to create a whole different scent. I am going to do the maths now and by just using 2 different scents you can create 15 different combinations.

So there we have it, my very first monthly favourites. What do you think? What have you been loving this month?
